Wonderful Wednesday Fifty Eight

It’s been another bonkers old week this one. Bonkers in that good, can’t form a coherent thought because I’ve overworked my brain sort of way. Outside of breaking a mental sweat I’ve been running, listening and enjoying so very much the Springing that is almost constant at the moment. In one way or another all of the seasons are my favourites but right now, right this second, I’m loving Spring in all its frolicking lamb, blossom filled glory.

This weeks’ wonderful is all about the food, the nudity and TopGun chat. Shall we….?

Spa Shenanigans I always feel that unreserved British awkwardness at any sign of semi-nudity in the company of my friends BUT the spa we went to had those hydrotherapy pools with actual disco lighting and there was cake so….

There are far worse ways to spend an afternoon than getting prune-fingers with some good ladies.

The 10k. I’ve almost certainly become a running w**ker, you’d be forgiven for thinking I’d run some kind of ultra marathon the way I’ve harped on about it over the last few weeks. It was *just* a 10k  but it’s the first one I’ve done in YEARS. I managed a vaguely unrespectable time of 1hr 2mins and 27secs but it’s something to work on at any one of the next five 10ks I’ve signed up for in the next five months.

Running: it’s never as bad as you think. The running folk can have that one for free.

All joking aside, there was an extraordinary sense of achievement at getting through that run as anyone who is not a natural runner will attest to.

Roast for Two. And when my jelly legs and I got home, the husband had sorted out the dinner ready for me to snarf and pass out. Win.

Smoothie of the Week. This week was banana, peanut butter, honey, frozen cherries, handful of spinach and almond milk. Cracking start to the day.

Falafel and Halloumi. An emergency purchase from the sandwich van whilst working from a different office. There was spinach and tomato and red cabbage some kind of mint yoghurt situation in there too and man alive was it delish.podcastsNew Podcasts. After sharing my favourite podcasts on Monday I was immediately inundated with recommendations for even more wonderful ones I’ve hereto missed. I’m currently trying to get into All Killa No Filla and haven’t yet decided whether it’s fascinating enough to make up for the sheer horror of the thing.

My Wingman. In one of those only-funny-to-us moments, the husband and I spent an inordinate amount of time debating our TopGun handles and then using them all of Tuesday night to request the Rennies and locate the (my) pyjamas and make the tea. Oh how I laughed. It’s nice having someone who doesn’t think you’re an utter cretin when you devise TopGun handles on a Tuesday night. Or at least someone who doesn’t tell you to your face.

The Perfect Cuppa. It always hurts my soul when the sky is blue and the day I have lined up largely involves being chained to my desk. I love my job but when the sun shines in Devon you really NEED to be outside enjoying it. I didn’t get to do that much this week BUT I did get to spend a lunchtime at home, basking in the sun trap by the back door with the most perfectly brewed cup of tea and a spaniel smooch. That is happiness right there.

  • Woo good job on the 10k! I’m trying to get back into running at the moment too, just to switch up my exercise. I don’t think I’ll be at 10k anytime soon though!

  • I feel so proud that you are become a fully fledged running w****er! I hope to become one as well but urgh, trying to get up the motivation at any time of the day to actually get outside is hard to come by. I much prefer to roll my yoga mat out in front of the fire at the moment. Keep going, I for one will be cheering you on! S x

  • So nice to be sitting and catching up with your blog again… life has been mental since we moved! Well done on the run lovely… you are my hero (I cannot run because of back issues but also, I just cannot run, full stop! I think my back issues are my body saying ‘ahhhh, there you go love, now you can just say it’s your back’!) Missed your face but I will hopefully be all caught up soon and be back to actually being able to read again! 😉 xx

    Massive well done on the 10K, you SHOULD be proud and shouting about it, I can barely manage half that these days, ugh. But you are inspiring me to begin to think about running properly again, soon, probably next week, or the week after that, but yeah, soon.. lol! x

  • GAAAAH So much bloody goodness! Is there anything lovlier than an al-fresco perfect cup of tea?!? HUGE and whopping well dones on the run – that is AMAZING! What’s next?!? Do you know i’ve never ever been to a Spa, am i missing out?! And that smoothie sounds like the BOMB, is it worth abandoning the crumpets/porridge bus for do you reckon?

  • I’v never been to a spa and it’s on my bucket list! Hopefully I’ll get a chance to go soon with my mam 🙂 yummehh, falafel is my fave at the mo, I have a falafel and humus wrap nearly every day for lunch at work. Ooh I’ve missed sitting outside with a good cuppa! Having moved into our own flat now, we don’t have a garden, but my parents’ live on the other side of town so I’m sure I will be making good use of their garden furniture :’)

  • Ooh the spa sounded lovely! I’ve never been to a spa before but it’s one of those things on my list as I imagine it would be so relaxing and also a fun way to spend a weekend too – I think as well, considering everything at the moment, the more ways we can squeeze in relaxation time the better! 😀 Congratulations on the 10k run too! My uncle and my friend are both training for the London Marathon at the moment so I get a lot of running related posts on Facebook at the moment, so I’m digitally cheering them on! I’m loving spring at the moment too, it’s just the best season for me as it really picks me up after winter, especially now the evenings are much lighter, and the combination of falafel and halloumi just sounds heavenly!     10k sounds pretty impressive to me! I don’t think I could run for the bus!

    Still, the promise of a good roast dinner could probably motivate me into a lot of things!
