Wonderful Wednesday Forty-One

img_5476And here I am again, Wednesday lunchtime, juggling indigestion inducing speed eating with trying to document the happy little bits of the week. No no, save your tears. It is what it is. And what it is, is CRAZY busy.  I’ll probably stop harping on about that sometime soon, I suspect it might just be my life.

Let’s do the wonderful!

Coq au Vin
Pray silence for the comedy named food* please, god bless you France.  I embarked on a 2-day labour of love to feed some friends on Friday night and it came out really well even if I do say so. I used this Bezza recipe and modified it only with a bit of chicken stock to loosen the sauce before serving on Friday. It went majestically with some roasted cauli and parmesan potatoes.

Oh and FYI, I whiled away the Thursday night marinating time consolidating my personal pensions. No, you’re the best adult.

*I made it for reasons other than just to be able to say Mary Berry’s Coq obvs, I’m not 8 years old.

Saturday Morning Yoga
Starting the weekend with a stretch and a bend and a semi-face-plant-whilst-attempting-crow-pose was pretty awesome. After a long and busy week, it’s important to try to find a bit of time to calibrate. I nabbed a whole hour out from the world: it was my little act of self love for the day. It’s infinitely less important to try to run to the class in case you were wondering, that’s a stupid idea that will end up in a hot, sweaty mess of a down dog.

wonderful wednesday fortySunday Morning Beach Date
The Sunday morning beach date is always high up the list of best bits and this weeks was stormy and freezing and beautiful. We finished it off with ginormous coffees and pastries, how all most good dates should end.

Fringe Benefits
The fringe is the most radical thing to happen to my hair since I let an evil bloke called ‘Dove’ give me a mullet within three weeks of arriving at uni. THAT was a good time.

On Saturday I took the plunge and got fringed. I’ll almost certainly regret it the second I get caught in the rain and end up looking all kinds of demented but right now I sort of a little bit love it. There’s no picture in which I don’t want to punch myself in the face so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

All the sunrises
My Instawhatsit is almost entirely made up of sunrise porn right now. I feel forever fortunate that those fur faces get me up and out of the door early enough to see the sunrise most days. I’m stocking up for that four month period during which I am constantly rained on and muddied up to the butt cheeks. Winter with spaniels is HARD.

Gilmore Girls
Ever on the hunt for something new to procrastinate with, I stumbled across Gilmore Girls. So long life. I don’t know how I missed it first time round, it’s sweet and funny and weird and I’m addicted. It’s not perfect, Lorelai can be a bit annoying and that town is full of more crack pots than even I can handle but it is still pretty wonderful.

spiced pumpkin baileysPumpkin Spiced Baileys
Ok, so you know my hatred of pumpkin spiced lattes is deep rooted – they’re just too sweet and syrupy and ick. BUT my love of Baileys is stronger than your nan’s and I had to believe they could do something better with the whole pumpkin spiced thing.

Ding ding ding ding!

It tastes like all the best bits of autumn – gently spiced, a little sweet, warming and cinamonny and so very moreish – but without the sickly sweetness. Oh and it’s ACTUAL Baileys. I’ve been putting it in everything. Every. Single. Thing. It goes best with hot chocolate though, smothered in whipped cream. It does not go so great with fajitas.

Find a bottle, drink it up, thank me later. It’s about the most cosy, hygge, delicious thing you’ll put in your face this year.

  • I have heard so much about Gilmore Girls recently, I think it’s going to be my next series to crack. Im currently watching the mammoth that is Grey’s Anatomy, but I’ve never had trouble having a few shows on the go 😉 I am also very envious of your willpower to get up early to watch the sunrise. I love being up early but hate getting up early, a slight problem if I wanna catch those sunrises! xx

I’m also addicted to Gilmore Girls at the moment! There’s a new 4 part (?) series coming in November I believe and its making me want to finish the original series up quickly! Pumpkin spiced Bailey’s sounds so good right now. Any Bailey’s would be good right now.

  • I am so tempted to get a fringe cut back in! I used to love mine one day then hate it the next – marmite!!

  • Looks like you have had a wonderful week – Feeling your winter with spaniels pain… I think I am muddy from November through to April haha!

  • Gilmore Girls is wonderful, isn’t it? I can’t believe it took me so long to get around to watching it! Sounds like you had a really lovely weekend, what with beach walks and morning yoga 🙂 And ooh, I hope we get to see your fringe sometime soon! xx

  • I only just found the Gilmore Girls too – Lorelai is definitely annoying, she is not a very nice person either a lot of the time. I love having a fringe but I never maintain it very well!

  • Ahh welcome to the Gilmore Girls gang! That stuff is chicken soup for the soul I tell ya! Can’t wait for the reboot in November!!

Speaking of can’t wait, let’s see the fringe! I’ll make a conscious effort not to want to punch you in the face 😀

  • Starting a Saturday off with some yoga sounds blissful, especially if it was followed with that stunning shot of the beach as well on your Sunday. I always feel so much better after going to the beach. I must watch Gilmore Girls at some point as everyone has recommended it to me countless times! Love that sunset shot you got too, beautiful. Also, Pumpkin Spiced Baileys sounds so good! Have a lovely weekend. – Tasha

  • I have so much to love in this post. Full fringe (obviously), pumpkin spiced Baileys, Gilmore Girls, coq au vin – where to begin! How far along have you gotten in Gilmore Girls? (I don’t want to spoil anything) x

  • Appreciate the Day

Well isn’t this list just the best thing to wake up to on a Saturday morning? There’s nothing I love more than a good sunrise (well you know there’s probably a few things!) and your photos are gorgeous. I am incredibly jealous of the beach. I’m yet to find a nice sandy one here! I must make it my mission.

I have got myself into yoga this week. Being encouraged at uni to try new things is great. I’m amazed at how I just lose track of time. Half an hour of yoga before a 9am lecture sets me up for the day.

I bet that you look just beautiful with that new fringe of yours! Have a lovely weekend and hope you get a minute to chill.

  • Cat

Fringe high fives! I couldn’t not have one, even if I do spend every damp day in a heightened state of fringe-vigilance.

Heaps of well dones for cracking a wonderful list of fabulousness despite a crazy busy life. I’ve only recently discovered Gilmore Girls too and am enjoying it for the most part, although sometimes Lorelai is a little too nails on a blackboard for my taste…

Hope you’ve found some time to relax (and eat pastries) this weekend. C xx

If I’d realised you’d never watched Gilmore Girls before I’d’ve been bombarding you with a million tweets saying WATCH IT WATCH IT NOW. I was introduced to it last January, and it changed my ruddy world. Fast-talking, sugar-addicted, sassy-as-hell independent women you say? Sign. Me. Up. xxx

  • Morning yoga is just the best. Always a nice way to start the weekend! I realise I start off all my update posts with the fact I’m busy, I need to just accept that busy is life!!

  • Sounds like a lovely week 😀 beach walks are the best, I can’t wait to have a pup of my own to take with us! I used to have a fringe and sometimes it looked cute af, other times I looked like a mushroom which wasn’t really what I was going for. I got lazy about trimming it so let it grow out. I’m 21 and still have no idea what hairstyles suit me except my trademark super long super straight hair… tad boring sometimes! I am sooo gonna try some pumpkin spiced baileys! Especially now that Baileys have brought out a vegan version! So excited to make allll the Christmas drinks! 😀

  • Can we swap weeks? This sounds perfect! Although as much as I love a good sunrise, I’m definitely trying to pinch as much cosy sleep time as possible! xx
